I Have Never Ever Put A Starter Pokemon Into The Box

edited 2011-07-11 06:11:53 in General
Ever. In every game I've played, the one Pokemon that stays on my team the whole time, is my starter. I think it's so strange seeing a team that doesn't have a starter in it!

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Same.

    My starters are my buddies.
  • Um... I didn't do it in 2nd and 3rd generation, as I... Never really liked those starters as much as other Pokemon in the area. >.>  All the other games though, I kept my starter.  Because they weren't chumps like the ones from Johto and Hoenn.
  • When I need to hatch 6+ eggs, my starter gets boxed. But then again, I usually only have a magcargo on my team anyway.
  • BUT THE BUNNY BACK IN THE BOX
  • Has friends besides tanks now
^^^ Hoenn's starters were cool, though! And if nothing else, Johto had Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr for cool starters.

I always keep my starter in my team. That might change once I get back into Pokemon and try to make an OU team. And I still have most of a pretty bitching level 100 team in Diamond that had my starter. It was:

    -Infernape
    -Luxray
    -Gengar
    -Garchomp
    -Espeon
    -Umbreon
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    No Rotom? Bah.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
    Rotom's not that cool.

I don't know how good it is mechanically, but I don't like it.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
And yet you have a Gengar.

    I am disappoint
  • Has friends besides tanks now
Nuh-uh, Gengar's boss. Has been since Gen 1.
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
I ditched my starter about half way through my White run because it was outclased by other Pokemon.

    So yay for Power Creep?
  • Power seeps as well. believe in the heart of the cards!
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
I haven't played since Blue and Red, but this was the case for me too. Since I had both versions and traded with myself, I had all three starters at one point as well. I tried to cover what I considered to be the most important elemental types with my party. The three starts helps that for sure.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Seems that gengar's ghost-type is not particularly useful offense-wise--especially in Gen 1.  On the other hand its useful defensively, to allow gengar to take advantage of its high special (attack) and speed.  This kinda makes it unusual relative to other ghosts I think, but I don't know them that well.

As for starters, I make a rule that my starter will ALWAYS be the highest-level mon on my lineup (barring occasionally higher-level catches), and that it will ALWAYS be in my final lineup.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I always have my starter in my party.  It just feels wrong if I don't.
  • ^^ I do that, too. Or rather, I keep a hierarchy of levels, and my starter is always the highest leveled one.

Except on Touhou hacks, for some reason I keep all my mons at the same level on these.
