Things I'm tired of IJBMing

Moe anime, Batman, American television vs. Anime, Chrono Cross. Things I'd like to IJBM more: Anime that isn't moe, eighties vs. nineties that doesn't degrade into cries of nostalgia, Metal Gear Solid games, shmups, internet illiteracy, literary analysis/criticism, and High-Definition television, and how posts like this come off as "topic suggestions" for a board that should be for people being bugged by stuff that actually honestly bugs them.

Comments

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
So...  Post about that stuff instead of moe, Batman, etc?

Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter. Shmups are games like Gradius (at least, that's what I meant by it).

^ Topic can be taken both as "things I'm tired of bitching about" as well as "the kind of topics I'm tired of reading."

To that list I'd like to add any topic whose title includes Japanese slang.
  • U.N. Squadron is a really fun game.

    I suck at it though.

...that's about all I know about shmups.

That's how most conversations with Edmond end up anyways though.

Man, what'd these guys ever do to anyone?
  • AW MAN, I LOVE UN SQUADRON. I would still play it, but SOMEONE lost my M.A.M.E. with hundreds of arcade games. I also loved TMNT and Stryder.

That happens when what I say flies over most people's heads and I wind up being the only guy whose not running on Moon Logic.

If its MAME, can't you just re-download it?

The SNES version seems dirt-common too... I need to picks it up...

Overestimating the depth of things that nerds don't like.
  • That's hardly a reason to get pissed off, though, unless you don't skip the forwards to old books.

Maybe it's the kind of thing I'd have to actually go to college to understand, like the whole grad student thing.

To be honest it's not the practice of literary analysis itself that is the problem. It's that so many people use it as basically an excuse to read whatever meaning they want into any text they want.

Just an example of what I'm talking about, I once had an argument with a dumbass who posted his interpretation of "The Art of War" with gems like, for example, quoting the passage about how "Supplying the army at a distance drains the public coffers and impoverishes the common people" (from Chapter 2 - Waging War) and claiming that its Sun Tzu criticising Monarchy for caring more about war than their own citizens. He got pissed off when I pointed out how wrong that was and turned it into a "Death of the Author" argument. THAT is the kind of person I don't like.

By contrast, I'm perfectly fine with most of the forwards to it that I've read, and the various commentaries that have been appended over the years. Most of those commentaries are by people who understood what Sun Tzu is all about, and supplemented that, rather than trying to pretend it meant something other than what it actually said.
  • You're tired of things bugging you as well?

    Me too, ^_^

Yeah. From now on, let's just talk about things we think are AWESOME!

Like, uhh... Anime is awesome! All of it! Except the ones that aren't!

I despise both the people who use Death of the Author as a license to read anything into a work with the flimsiest of excuses and the people who use the former group to denounce Death of the Author as some sort of postmodern abomination.
