Repo! The Genetic Opera

edited 2011-07-23 20:42:57 in General
Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I just finished watching it and I still can't figure out if I enjoyed it or not.

I think I did.  But I'm not sure.

All I know for sure is that Anthony Stewart Head is awesome.

I can't figure out why the critics trashed it. I read all the bad Metacritic reviews, but none of them actually said anything about the movie.

"(description of the film here). I didn't like it. The singing was bad. 3/10."
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I definitely don't think it was bad.  Just... very different.

And Paris Hilton somehow wasn't horrible in it.
  • Clean your room little Billy

Repo! had visual style, the beginnings of an interesting setting and appearances by both Sarah Brightman, ohGr and ASH in it's favour. I can remember almost nothing else about it.

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
And of course the one song that's stuck in my head is "Mark It Up" which is the most annoying song in the movie. :l

I think I'm erring on the side of liking it, though.
  • They're somethin' else.
    VILLAIN MURDER MONSTER
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Zydrate comes in a little glass vial...

    A little glass vial?!

    A LITTLE GLASS VIAL!
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
One of my main problems was that when I was watching it felt like it was trying too hard to be a cult classic.

Other than that I can't remember a thing about it,
  • They're somethin' else.
And the little glass vial goes into the gun like a battery.

and the zydrate gun goes somewhere against your anatomy.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
And when the gun goes off it sparks, and you're ready for surgery.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I always read the title as "Repo! The Generic Opera."
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Say what you will about it, generic is one thing that Repo isn't.

I apparently read it correctly even when it's not written correctly.  Since I had to read your post several times before I could even tell what was different between what you said and its actual name.

Also, the only thing I know about Repo is that one of my sort-of-friends really likes it.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I wouldn't know. The title is literally the only thing I know about it.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
I like the movie quite a bit. My friends like it a whole lot more than I do. I thought the cast and songs were surprisingly good. I heard people calling it this generation's Rocky Horror Picture Show.
  • Glaives are better.

It was without a doubt the worst musical I've ever seen. And I watched MAME.

    I still enjoyed it.

  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington

Would you consider Pick of Destiny a musical? If so, that was the worse I've ever seen.

  • Glaives are better.

BLASPHEMY. LORD JABLES, LORD RAGE KAGE, STRIKE DOWN THIS INFIDEL AND SMITE HIM FOR HIS INSOLENCE.

    HAIL THE D!

  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
The songs were good, but everything else was just.... blah.
  • Glaives are better.
I'm sorry that you're wrong. Any film that has Jack Black searching for Satan's tooth so he can play rockin' guitar is automatically awesome and worthy of critical and financial success.

Mr. The Edge goes to Washington

I can't argue with one with as much passion as you, Hatter. I have seen the error of my ways, good sir. Hail the D!

    I really loved Tribute though.

  • Glaives are better.

WE COULDN'T REMEMBER THE GREATEST SONG IN THE WORLD

    NO

    THIS IS A TRIBUTE

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Tenacious D was okay. The songs were good, but the movie itself was kind of eh.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
I agree with the above sentiment. Plus, it indirectly gave us "K-On! vs. DMC", so I can forgive its shortcomings.
