Anime Filler Is Bad

edited 2011-08-06 20:52:21 in General
You know, if it wasn't for filler, I'd never watch Anime that are based on Manga. I know a lot of the time it's utter shit because it's made quickly to stall for time. But what's wrong with a few extra story arcs? I mean, honestly what is the point in watching a cartoon if it's exactly the same as the comic? I know I sure as hell wouldn't, I'd just read the comic!

And I don't care what any one says, Garlic Jr. is awesome.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
Why would you watch somethine exactly the same as the comic? Because it's animated.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Filler is used too negatively. I have seen a lot of good filler.
  • You can change. You can.
Doctor Who is all about the filler. And it is amazing. Just sayin'.

In fact, the episode that most people claim is the best is an episode that doesn't even matter in the arc of the season. (Blink)

Filler is not bad as long as the myth arc is not the center of it all, basically.

Better than album filler, at any rate.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Honestly I'm tired of arc-based stories. Isn't one of the advantages of serial fiction that you can have a bunch of short stories with the same character?
  • You can change. You can.
I like the best when it's balanced. When I can enjoy both a fun romp where I can see characters at their finest, and get hints for an overaching plot that propells the things forward and helps develop the characters as well.

The thing is, so many shows are doing arcs when they don't have the chops for it and should just stick with three-act hour-long shows. Hell, it's infecting sitcoms. God forbid I miss an important episode of How I Met Your Mother.

Ah, you're watching and talking about recent TV.

-goes back to watching Farscape like the goddamn hipster he is-

    -sorta-
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Anything Rei pops up in on NGE is filler.
  • ^ Except when it provides character insight and unforgettable moments like the poem scene.

No, I don't think you've seen the REAL filler that goes on in that series.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    ...that's because I'm on episode 2.

    ugh, rei monologues

    i fucking hate rei's monologues
  • ^^ You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it.

    Be prepared to laugh.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I'd call Rei the worst character ever, but she is indirect inspiration for Yuki Nagato.

A case of evil ending up creating good.
  • You can change. You can.
I just hate the both of them. Asahina and Asuka are far better and more entertaining characters in their respective series
  • -mopes at being the only Rei fan on the board-

    Also, gotta love NGE derails.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
When I just had heard of Haruhi: Go Asahina Go!

When I watcehd the first season: Go Haruhi Go!

When I read the fourth novel: GO YUKI GO!

Also, asuka's counterpart in Haruhi Suzumiya is well, Haruhi suzumiya.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I like some moe stuff, and I think Asahina is just really annoying.  :l
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond

Just one of many reasons American toons were better in the 1980s than in the 1990s or 2000s...

    ^ It's Dantes.  He's serious.

Ugh, why did I say Asahina? I meant Asakura.

It may be because when I think Asahina, I think of the Rahxephon one who was cool rather than the stupid bitch from Haruhi. >_>

    Oh yeah, Asakura's pretty awesome.

    Then say Mikuru?
  • You can change. You can.
It was a brainfart, man. Just sayin'
  • They're somethin' else.
    Lets put it this way:

If it's more of that Ninja Chef BATTLE or Fat Elvis wants a Fat Ninja To Love bullshit, I don't want to see it.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Honestly I dig all the Haruhi characters. They're all just presented in the right way that I find them wonderfully entertaining.
  • Fuck filler. It's all sub par shit.
