Slapstick anime trying to take itself serious
Or vice versa. Serious anime that can never just focus on being serious and feels the need to insert those dumb comedy routines. Boke and Tsukkomi routines are NOT funny in supposedly serious or deep anime.
I'm looking at you FMP and Linebarrels of Iron. You crap.

A lot of fantasy novels fall prey to a lack of humour, which dehumanises the characters and makes the books uninteresting as a result.
Humor is refined.
Slapstick is 'random funny'
Jon Stewart is a humorous "news" show, that can take itself seriously.
Steven Colbert is a slapstick parody, that does not, nor should it try to, take itself seriously.
I.E. Situational 1-time humour that is added for nothing else but to amuse the audience.
That's my take on it.
If you want one to overpower the other, you need to do in a good way, otherwise the other just sticks out too much.
Take for example this anime I'm watching, It's very dramatic, and yet, It's very comedic as well. because of how the comedy is presented though, it doesn't overpower the drama, It instead submits itself to the the drama at hand, like a faithful and ever-working servant that wishes nothing more than to serve it's master.
Of course at seven it frightened the crap out of me...
