Associating characters from things with people who used those characters as avatars.

For example, there are a number of Touhou characters that I know nothing about, and have only really seen through avatars of Fawriel on TV Tropes. So now there are a whole bunch of Touhou characters that when I see them (say, as someone else's avatar on a different site), I think of Fawriel before I even think of Touhou itself.

Similarly, while watching Code Geass I kept thinking of V.V. as yurifanboy-sama.

(This is in General since I couldn't decide whether Media or Webspace would be more appropriate.)

    Though it is weird to see characters pop up in an anime that you've noticed as someone's avatar.

    I do not really see this as a bad thing. If you are the type who is big on forum communities, then I think associating characters with users will help you distinguish them better if that makes sense.

    I think plenty of people do this on purpose though just to be remembered by other users for something. I guess that can sometimes lead to flanderizing, but most of the time I think it is fairly positive. 

    That being said, I cannot think of any characters I associate with members at the moment. I suppose I kind of associate certain tropers with different versions of Guybrush from the Monkey Island series though.

    *Shlapintogan: One of the characters from (what I think is) Lackadaisy Cats.
    *Cygan: Crona.
    *Ossan: Raven.
    *nohaynicklibre: King Harkinian.
    *AU and CA: Those Pony avatars.
    *Merlo: whatever her avatar is (I think it's supposed to be Raiden from Peachi's MGS comics).
    *Chagen: That one Create.swf avatar of his.
