The Lottery.

It's so stupid. Yet so enticing. Now, I am not a lotteryfag. But my mom is, and I cannot deny thay there's a certain thrill in winning some money. We just won 20 bucks today, afterall. That constant fleeting goal of hitting the jackpot is so amazingly addicting, I swear. It's like chasing the purple dragon--it will never happen, but it's somewhat fun, tho (I probably wouldn't waste my money on it tho). Also, I wondered, that, in the ridiculously unlikely chance of me and my mom winning, that basically no one I told--including you guys--would believe me. I'm not sure why that matters, but I noticed. .....Oh look, it's another "Chagen rambles" topic....

Exactly the point, rather than seeing it as a loss you see it as near win.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    You can check the winners.

  • Oh look, my mom just won 20 bucks again.

  • Opening packs of trading cards is like this but better, since you can make use of even the garbage cards.
  • So my mom managed to make a profit of 20 bucks off of this scratch off (spent 30, won 50). Hm.
  • You should probably use this very small sample size to predict the likelihood of you making more money from the lottery.

    Remember the 1/8 rule.

If, out of 8 lottery tickets, you win less than 50% of the amount you put in, then stop.

^ When do you start again? :D?

I'd think that if it were only a $2 a week thing (like Lotto 6/49), then it wouldn't be too bad of an expenditure (obviously depending on how much you earn a week). But the lottery tickets? Better quit if you get ahead.

Lottery = Biggest legal scam out there.

Even if you spend around 64,000 dollars on them, there is a very high chance you probably won't win because the numbers are randomly determined, and the ones you buy might never win at all. There is no printed auto-win ticket with the guaranteed numbers.

I really would like to win the lottery :(

Although I'd end up giving the majority away I'd save the rest and live off of the interest.

The way I look at it, losing $2 is about worth the entertainment value of a crossword-themed lottery scratcher, win or lose.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I, for one, am a huge fan of lotteries. The Georgia lottery is what makes my school so cheap.

Well, I'm not saying that the concept isn't useful or that it doesn't help people gather money, but anyone who buys a ticket expecting to win is really silly, imo.
  • I don't think it's a matter of if anyone will believe you or not, it's a matter of if anyone will care.

I can't help but be just a bit wary of the lottery. But, good luck with that.
  • 'Swhy my strategy is not hoping to "win" the lottery. Taking the usual 6/49 (s it just me, or is that the most common form of number generation?), I'm not looking to get all six numbers right. I've set my sights lower. Four or five numbers.

Still not going to happen, but the odds are better.
