"Why can't you just ignore X if you don't like it?"

edited 2011-09-08 18:52:43 in General
Because I believe that X's very existence is damaging to Y, whatever Y is, which will vary depending on what X is.

For example, I hate Gears of War because, ever since it came out, the market has been saturated with inferior clones of it and games that otherwise make use of its mechanics, which makes the kinds of games/shooters that I enjoy harder to come by. I can't ignore it because ignoring the problem doesn't help make it go away. Complaining about it does help reverse the problem, even if by the tiniest increment.

(I don't actually believe any of this; I'm just playing devil's advocate.)

  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
A lot of people have a strange addiction to the things they hate. It's like they want to expose themselves to more of it just so they can keep attacking it.

At least the things I attack, are usually things I just sorta-like and my attacks are more like steam-venting than an attempt to kill them.

99% of sayings like this are simply attempts to silence criticism without actually having to think about it.

Oh come on  now. A significant portion are just people tired of hearing their acquaintances rant about stuff they don't care about.
  • You can change. You can.
I'd say that counts within Wicked's criteria. It's just that it's justified.

Some people just need to stop with their obsession with The Transformers film franchise Smallville Final Fantasy certain things they could spend much more time being productive with other things.

  • I don't like Show.

    I don't watch Show.

    Fans keep going about Show.

    I get frustrated at Show.

I imagine that's how it works.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
That is how it works for me, at least >_>

You try to ignore Show. Fans keep going on about Show. Everywhere you go.

I try to direct my rage against Fanbase though.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
@Title: I would, but if I did, I'd have to go without a lot of awesome things. Sex, for example.

Obsession with smallville? I liked it at the beginning but really, is its fandom that invasive to you, malkavian? Or is it a show that clashes with your comic book sensibilities? About the transformers and final fantasy, there I can actually see the size of those fandoms.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
It's more that the show seems to completely turn off my pattern recognition. I'll be there and an episode totally sucked but the teaser for the next episode shows something awesome and I let myself get suckered into it.

Also, on a primal level I think I really wanted the show to be good. It could have been this really great successor to Buffy with the proper writing. I mean, with the history and material the show had to work with it could have been fantastic. Instead, we got this dross that at its best managed to be a decently-written Superhero sitcom.
