How every goddamn Slice-Of-Life anime nowadays involves some kind of club.

I swear, I just noticed this.

Damn near every Slice-of-Life anime that's come out in the past 2 years has two main characters create a club for school and then the other characters join. I blame K-On!, but eh. I wish they would use something a little more different and original than that.

The only SoL Anime I'm gonna be watching this fall is Kimi to Boku.

Comments

  • Nichijou.  A Channel.  Shinryaku! Ika Musume.  Working'!!.  A bunch of others that I didn't mention.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    You blame K-On!?

Even though Haruhi did it first and is way more popular?

Also, come to think of it, Haruhi and K-on are the only ones I've seen with clubs.

So Ra No Wo To has a tank unit.... that's sort of a club...
  • ^ Also that.
  • Bare in mind this is Chagen speaking, Malk.  >.>
  • "Also, come to think of it, Haruhi and K-on are the only ones I've seen with clubs"

I'm pretty sure MM! has one. As will the about-to-air Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai.

  • So that's two that might have one.  Compared to the examples listed above that don't.

...A case of small reference pools, methinks. >.>

Also, I don't see why having a club is such a bad thing. It's a good narrative tool for bringing a bunch of different people together. I've met loads of amusing weirdos thanks to clubs and even been one on occasion.
  • Also that.  Clubs are cool.  Why're you hating on clubs, man?  And it's not like they're all the same because they have a club.  There's so many types of clubs out there that there's room for countless different stories.
  • "Also that.  Clubs are cool.  Why're you hating on clubs, man?"

Cultural gap. The Japanese may be used to clubs, but I'm just more used to people chilling at someone's house, since...we do that in America.

In that case, though, I shouldn't be bitching...>_>

I'm still only watching Kimi to Boku, though. I hope there's some delicious Ho Yay~♥

Shinryaku!? Ika Musume is airing next season.  Since it's going to be the best show of the season (mostly because almost every other show next season is going to suck), you should probably be watching that.
  • I'd rather wait for when the first season is released on DVD so I can watch that. I know the show has basically no continuity at all, but I like to go in order, eh?
  • Hey, next season's going to have Fate/Zero, which is, like, going to be the first time I've tried to watch a series as it airs for a long time.

...I mean, I just can't say no to anyone as silly awesome as Zero!Rider~

I'm excited for Future Diary (cue DYRE flipping out) and Persona the animation.

    Anybody got any further suggestions?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^^ -brofist-
  • I would watch Fate/Zero, but I've never played the original Fate/Stay Night or watched the anime.

You don't need to watch it F/SN to understand Fate/Zero.  It's its own story, even if it is a prequel to F/SN.

...You should totally get around to reading F/SN at some point, though.  'Tis most awesome~  Other than the, uh, h-scenes, which are badly written, but hey, Nasu's never been good at writing sex, so yeah. >.>
  • I want to see these Nasu H-Scenes just to see if they really are that bad/irrelvant to the story.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I mostly just skipped past them and didn't really even look at the pictures, cuz I was reading it for the story and the badass.

    One word: Mollusks.

Also hells yeah.  I'm here to see Saber break stuff, not, uh, Shirou's badly drawn/censored penis.  Shiki is hotter anyways Ahem. >.> <.<

I have no interest in Fate/Zero.  Mostly since the only thing I've ever really heard about it is that Gen Urobuchi is involved, which does not seem to be a good thing.

Anyway, I'll watch Persona 4 since I loved the game, but... I don't actually have any particularly high expectations for it.  Anyway, other than that and Ika Musume, there doesn't really seem to be anything else that doesn't look... extremely mediocre (or is a sequel to something I haven't seen yet).  Still, I'll probably be checking out some other shows anyway, since 2 shows is not nearly enough.

  • Kamen Rider MADOKA
Even Live Action TV is getting into the action.

I'm hoping Nasu and Urobuchi nullify each other and the result ends up being good.
  • $80+ per session
Um...America has a lot of clubs too Chagen.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
Moerin: However, F/Z has major spoilers for FSN.

^^It's quite possible he goes to an American school that doesn't, however.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Didn't Clannad do the whole "club" thing before either Haruhi or K-On even existed?

In Japan, schools practically run on clubs, so its no surprise they come up a lot in fiction. They even come up in the earlier (1980s) works of Rumiko Takahashi (Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2).

Could be worse.... they could be shillelaghs.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
And now I can't help but think of SEES/NAT from Persona 3.

^^Clannad's first premiere is in 2004, Haruhi's first story was in 2003.
