Trying to write a good and thoughtful post on a forum...

.....knowing that most people will ignore it.

On another site I was at, a bunch of people were getting really nasty and insulting another site. But that was pretty much all they were doing.

I got so sick of it that I made this post:

Mother of Christ.

This thread has been nothing but people yelling at each other and bitching and everyone blaming everyone else when the real problem is themselves.

Poosh is at just as much fault here as MotK. You can't simply throw all the blame on group just because you don't like them. Have you even stopped to realize that you look just as silly as the people you so adamantly hate by acting like this?

You all are like little kids, screaming at each other for reasons that no one--including myself, I might add--is truly sure of. Yeah, you think that MotK is a shitty site. Back that up with ARGUMENTS and EVIDENCE. You think an person there is bad. THEN SAY WHY YOU THINK SO AND PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF WHY YOU THINK THAT WAY.

You're not accomplishing anything by sitting here and going on and on about how you hate MotK, or whatever you're talking about. Do I dislike some aspects of MotK? Maybe. But I don't post endless posts filled with nothing but pure rage for it.

I don't really know how to finish this, but I'll say that's it's really saddening to see a small fandom utterly fractured like this.

But, hey, I'm a bullshit secondary, what the fuck do I know?

I have a feeling that a lot of people will ignore this post. Or get mad at it. Which is kind of depressing.

(I don't intend to import drama with this thread. If a mod thinks it skirts the line, please lock it as fast as possible)

  • They're somethin' else.
Post it, and piss 'em off :D
  • I did post it already.
  • If you think it's depressing that people will get mad at a post, you might want to make it less inflammatory.
  • And they ignored it and went right back to not solving the problem at all.

    Oi vey

    You expected anything else?
  • I really should have had lower expectations for an image-board, but come on. I was like, the first post in 50 to actually try to help.
  • ...Damn, where did that "before I even clicked on it" image go... >.>
  • Dude, like WTF did I do

I just tried to help on another forum, and all I get from you guys is derision?

  • Well... Yeah.  What else did you expect? :P
  • You can change. You can.
    You approached the matter wrongly.
  • Because I'm tired of always getting derided.

What can I do to get some people around here to have more respect for me? I'd really like to not be regarded as the "forum fool" all the time.

    Don't do dumb things.
  • "Don't do dumb things."

    That's a broad statement.

I've noticed that every time I try to do something, I fail at it. I wonder why people try to do good things in the first place.

  • You can change. You can.
Your intention was good, your approach was wrong. Calling people "kids" and berating them for being jerks does not accomplish anything. And it's not exactly dumb, what you did. People will bitch. what a surprise. All you should have done is ignore that thread and move on to greener pastures.
  • "What can I do to get some people around here to have more respect for me?"

The biggest thing that used to infuriate me about you was your utter refusal to accept anything as your fault, instead blaming everyone else. You're getting better at it, but it's something to keep in mind.

In regards to the bolded text, what Juan said. I'd also add that the last line sounds really, really annoying.

    Chagen,

I certainly do not consider you to be the "forum fool" for whatever that is worth. As for getting more respect, part of the problem might just be that people like to hold onto preconceived notions of who they believe users are and thus it will take a lot for them to change their minds. I do not think you can be blamed for that, so long as you follow the rules and are generally courteous.

As for the post in question, I find that people tend to respond better to calm suggestions rather than harsh words, especially online where it is pretty easy to dismiss people as haters.

Also, I think that people might accuse you of being arrogant based on the fourth and fifth paragraphs of your post. I feel like if you are complaining about other people's behavior, it is better to just point out the errors in it rather than mention yourself or your own actions. I believe keeping things focused on the behavior rather than the people involved can help avoid making things personal and thus unnecessarily heated.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Stop getting up in arms every time someone says something that could be taken as negative about you.

    Stop raeging so much.

    Contribute intelligently to discussions.

Apologize to people you've offended in the past.
  • "Apologize to people you've offended in the past."

    This might be useful.

  • @Gelzo: What show is that from?
  • Seriously?

It's The Office. The American one. It's a great show, go watch it.
