ITT: Everest gets picky about his literature

Has friends besides tanks now
So, reading the 13th Dresden Files book, Ghost Story, I realized something: Jim Butcher's prose is pretty terrible in some ways. The story is great, and the characters are okay, but I can't stand his narration style as Harry. Can someone recommend something to me?

I'm not too specific on genre, but something creepy or moody, I think; psychological/horror/mystery/etc., and fantasy/sci-fi is fine, too. And something with high-quality prose.

If you don't mind cheesy villain dialogue, Sabriel is pretty neato.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yeah, the prose is perhaps the thing that could most use some improvement in Dresden Files.

IIRC, Storm Front was the first story Butcher wrote outside of maybe something in a class in highschool, so it's not surprising.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Gah, I still need to read Ghost Story.

I'm failing to live up to my internet name

    You still haven't?

You should. It was very illuminating on several matters. And none of the answers are things you'll have seen coming.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Paradise Lost. You'll never feel the prose is amateurish.
  • You can change. You can.
    And Malk's major shows.
