The Spartacus thing over on the TV Tropes forum.

OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
This is the second-worst April Fool's joke I've seen on the internet, with the blue ribbon going to Youtube putting its site upside-down.

Jokes should not interfere with functionality.

    Woki mit deim Popo.
    I'm Sparticus XXXXXXX XXXXXXX!
  • Everyone's username is now Spartacus [username] and everyone's avatar is Spartacus...it's pretty annoying. Although I will admit I actually found it funny...for the first 5 seconds or so.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yeah, it was funny for like three seconds, then I tried to actually use the forum and very quickly grew to hate it.
  • ...What makes this even weirder is that it's only 10:13 for me right now. So it's still March 31 for me.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
Well, I just stay away from the forums on April Fools day.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
You know what? Forget what I said about the Youtube thing being worse. At least it could be turned off.
  • First it was annoying, then it was funny for a few minutes once the obligatory "I AM SPARTACUS" jokes started.

Now it's annoying again, because it's impeding the ability to have normal conversations.
  • A better April Fool's joke would be redirecting everyone to google/making it look they were banned, with a tiny link at the the bottom that returns everything to normal.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
It's like a plague of clones.  Like MLP.

^^^^ Yeah, this takes the cake for bad internet April Fools' pranks. Except the cake is poisoned...and a lie.

    Cue-bey
You can have conversations, you just have to look a little bit to the right to ID people.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I just adblocked the spartacus pic. Still impedes forum use, but not quite as ugly.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
Well if it somehow fucks up the forums, the joke on tvtropes.

Its just a little april fools joke, if a little lame. What's the fuss?

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^It makes reading the forums extremely annoying, since you have to actually read each individual poster name to have the slightest clue what's going on. And since the word "Spartacus" is put in front of every name, even that's made more annoying than it normally would be.
  • If you don't mind extreme minimalism, you can just turn off the gingerbread option in your profile. Doesn't help much, but it might be better than having to read "Spartacus Central Avenue" every time.

(Also, why don't you bring up this complaint on TVT, where someone who can do something about it can see?)
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^I did complain about it on TV Tropes, but it got lost among the dozens of "I AM SPARTACUS!" posts.

And yeah, I turned gingerbread off, but that looked hideous, so I turned it on and adblocked the avatar.
  • Hmm...there's a good plan for breaking people's addiction to the site.
  • There's always good old "read content, ignore context".
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^I would, but I'm trying to post on an RP thread (KHSWO, of course), which requires me to at least know who's posting.
  • Yeah, I'm sort of DMing a new one, and it makes it a bit difficult.

Luckily, things seem to be working out fine.
  • Well, most people in KHSWO have started using fake avatars ever since everyone realized I'm a genius for coming up with the idea.  So it's really not so bad there.

But anyway yeah, it's still an annoying April Fool's day joke.  Not the worst one today though.
  • Poot dispenser here
At least you people can probably use the Internet, because my Wireless connection is sucking today.
  • ^^ Oh, what was worse?

^ Best. April. Fools'. Prank. Ever. :D ...or not. >.>

    Huh? -checks TVTropes-

I don't see what's so bad about it. Yes, it's annoying as hell, but it's not that bad. Besides, it's not like it completely replaces usernames or anything.

Also, the fact that it's not even 9:30 yet where I live makes this all a little confusing. Also,

"Hmm...there's a good plan for breaking people's addiction to the site."

This. They should've done this a long time ago.

[Somehow, this post ended up really long because I didn't realize how much I'd have to explain for it to make sense.  Ignore it, since I'm sure nobody will care.  But I typed it already so I'm going to post it.]

@ Tachi: Actually, on second thought, I'm not actually sure if it's worse.  Since it's at least funny.  Or was for a minute or two... But I was thinking of the April Fool's joke in osu!.

(to explain, osu! is a freeware clone of Elite Beat Agents/Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan.  Inexplicably, one of the more popular kinds of songs people decide to make beatmaps for (in addition to Touhou and anime songs and such) is Nightcore.  Which is basically sped-up, pitch-shifted versions of regular songs with shitty drum beats and synthesizer things added.  Also random pictures of anime girls in the background, which is still not something I understand even a little bit.  This April Fool's joke makes every single song into a "nightcore" song (except songs with "Nightcore" somewhere in their title).  By making them all faster and increased pitch, with a generic drum beat added.  The problem with this is that it's really really annoying, but on top of that since the songs are faster, it's way harder to actually play the game (actually, the extra speed is a modifer that can already be applied, but it doesn't normally shift the pitch and certainly doesn't add a drumbeat.  And of course it's not enabled by default...).  It can be disabled, but it has to be done per-beatmap, every time you go to the song selection screen.  So either way, it's frustrating and inconvenient and really annoying.  It was pretty funny though, how on the forums there were people who actually thought it was a permanent change, and not an April Fool's joke.)
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.

"Yeah, it was funny for like three seconds"

Wrong, it was never funny. It's just annoying and those idiots who feel the need to make dumb jokes about it, whenever there is an opportunity, just make it worse.

  • Not being able to tell who's who at a glance is pretty lame.
  • This is... Really no big deal. Is it that hard to read every username? It's getting annoying how people turn things that should be funny into reasons to complain and cry.
