I don't get the Tea Party

edited 2011-05-21 20:06:02 in General
I've gotton a lot of conflicting accounts mainly between whether they are libertarian or just conservative. I've always approached them with cuation because i'm not sure. do they even have a uniform ideology? They seem pretty loosely orginized  with not much holding them together.

    > uniform ideology

Yeah, they're definitely lacking that.  The only unifying thing is a general dissatisfaction with how things are going, and a willingness to take out that anger on Democrats.

Most of what holds them together is Republican operatives reminding them repeatedly that Democrats are demonic anti-American schemers who want to turn the world into a gigantic dictatorship faster than the Illuminati can even call a meeting.

Of course, the cool thing is that they're beginning to bite the Republicans in the ass too.

I edited my post to be a bit more meaningful, FYI.

from what I gathered they seem to be split between two factions. Libertarian (Paul) and Conservetive (Palin). I like the former but can't stand the latter.

I haven't really studied Tea Party dynamics that much so I am not sure what factions there are.  What you cite is a plausible division, but I have yet to see a clean division like that come up.

(Also you need a period between "(Palin)" and "I like".)

^^ The latter should not be given the credit of calling themselves "conservative." They are authoritarians and crypto-fascists and I will not stand by whil- *foams at mouth* AAAARGH! I HATE THEM SO.
  • JHM You're a socialist why are you defending conservetives?

Because I respect conservatives. I respect William F. Buckley, George H.W. Bush, even Richard Nixon to some degree, but I do not respect them. They are the worst sort of reactionary agitators and if left unchecked they would willingly drag this country into the bleeding Dark Ages for want of moral superiority. They are incorrigibly loathsome.
  • are we talking the whole of them or just the Palin faction?

The Palinites. I like Ron Paul as an individual, even if I deeply distrust his fiscal policies.
  • Ron Paul is one of those guys like Obama or Raegan evne if you don't like his politics you can't help but like the guy.

Precisely. He's earnest, thoughtful, reasonable, humble, and genuinely affable... none of which I can say of Palin, or Trump, or Beck, any of that lot. They are neither the sort of people I could agree with, or the sort of people I could like even if I did.

Hmm, that's a pretty cool tagline.  I should remember that:
    > Republicans who claim the Democrats want to establish an totalitarian communist anti-Christian anarchist Muslim world government faster than the Illuminati can call a meeting.
