    >Havok

    >Physics

  • You mean Havok is magic?

    MIND=BLOWN

Havok sure as hell isn't physics.

At least not in the sense that it ever behaves anything like real-world physics.

    Also it's really really buggy.
  • Then why is it called the "Havok Physics Engine"?
  • Because it's supposed to simulate physics.

It just does a horrible job at it.
  • I dunno, Motorstorm is still pretty damn fun.

But then why does everyone use it....?
  • But you never had any to begin with.
"Havok not-actually-physics-but-we'll-say-it-is Engine" doesn't have the same ring to it.
  • ^^ Because other physics engines are even shittier.
  • So in what ways does it fail to accurately simulate physics?

And why is that a bad thing?
  • I have literally never played a game that made use of Havok physics that wasn't incredibly buggy and frustrating to play in any part of the game that relied on the physics.

Wait, Chagen did you seriously start a thread complaining about the inconsistent physics of a Havok game then ask how they were inconsistent?
  • That's odd.

Given the Motorstorm is really fun, but I think Havok is only used for trackside objects flying around.

Though, from some forum posts, it may be used for the vehicles as well.
  • If it's just random objects flying around when you hit them, then whatever.  If it's like, an FPS and there are physics "puzzles"... 100% of the difficulty comes from the interface and the fact that Havok physics makes no sense.

Also I hate the vehicles in Halo.

Also Mass Effect, with its... whatever that vehicle is called.

You got to romance Tali in ME2....
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
What Malk said. Also, some of the one-of background jokes were hilarious.
  • Didn't Half-Life 2 have Havok physics which were awesome?

But then, Valve's trade seems to be doing the impossible sometimes.

No, Half-Life 2 had Havok physics which were horrible (though not as bad as others), but the rest of the game was awesome so I still played through it anyway.

This thread is now about Mordin singing.

  • As a testament to Havok's....oddities, in Motorstorm, I once managed to explode straight upwards. When I was traveling at least 100 MPH fowards. It was like all of my momentum immediately shifted upwards.
  • You can change. You can.
Mako was nice if a bit dumb.

Also, Mass Effec 2 was amazing. At least, I know I'd enjoy it. Except for the stupidity that is the cartridges deal. fuck that shit.
  • Seriously, they took one of the things I love about Mass Effect and threw it away for FUCKING LIMITED AMMO, I mean you can't just do a 180 turnaround when it comes to technology progression, that's no different from using bullets. That's bullshit and it breaks the suspension of disbelief.

ME2 is easily Bioware's worst game storywise

which still puts it head and shoulders above most games.

That bothered me less than the fact that it was basically a shooter with dialogue options.
  • I'm fairly sure even the first Mass Effect was just a shooter with dialogue options.

I'm terrified at the thought that the sequel was even more of one.

Bioware has been delightfully vague about their cashcow. One day they say it will be 'more action packed' (read: less RPG elements) the next they say it will 'appeal to purists' (read: more RPG elements)

Remember kids, lying is only wrong if you're not on the Marketing department!

That bothered me less than the fact that it was basically a shooter with dialogue options.

I don't see what's so bad about this, but then again, preferences and all that.

Going into Bioware games, I expect an RPG, dammit.

I like RPGs more than shooters, so...

Then again, I like JRPGs more than whatever Bioware makes anyway, so whatever.

This is the worst thing about ME2.
