Leftists who want to kill everybody

edited 2011-04-02 22:29:14 in General
Because you never know what you might see.
Very specific complaint.  Don't be turning this into a liberal bashing thread, now.  I suppose I could generalise it into a people who want to kill everybody thread, but it's leftists who are annoying me right now.

I mean, just because I don't hate the Queen, or Irish unionists (I've never met an Irish unionist, so I prefer not to be judgemental) or protestants (I am a protestant, kind of) or people from the South (I'm from the South West)... that makes me some kind of crazy conservative?  Because if so, I'm proud to be one.

Leftists are similar to the people who think the death penalty should be used to get rid of everyone they don't like or break the law, right?
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Not necessarily, but they annoy me too.

I appreciate the existence of people whose opinions are different from mine.

    They make life interesting.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
I guess I can appreciate that position, but it's difficult to be appreciative of outright murderous hatefulness, you know?

(For context, I have just gotten away from a guy who was advocating the wholesale slaughter of the Tea Party, the British royal family, the entirety of Fox News, every single Irish Unionist, every single Protestant Christian and goodness knows who else).

NOOOO NOT THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Man, they were born into it.  I don't like how they get so much money off us, but they don't deserve to die for that.

And fuck, I am sick of all the angry republicans (that's with a lowercase "r") around here.

Well, I don't have to put up with them, so ha!

I'm sure they're annoying, but they're not what this thread is about, OK?  Doesn't mean the right are squeaky clean, but this is a complaint about people on the left.  Not even the whole left, either, a specific subset.

Why is it Republicans vs. Democrats? Isn't only having two major political parties to choose from a horrible disadvantage and implies too much feuding between the two?
  • Because you never know what you might see.
There are other parties, but they can't afford as much publicity, and in any case, insufficient numbers of people are prepared to trust them with their votes since they're less experienced.

So it's a vicious circle, basically.

I was always completely lost when it came to politics and stayed away from them because it all went over my head and didn't know what to follow, or if it mattered at all. When it finally comes into play, it either defines my views as a person with power (which will likely never happen), define my views on things I can never change, or decide who to vote for.
  • I sometime wish we did have a house of legislature or even a media organization that was tended to promote alternative parties, if only to get their views in the open, rather than discourage them as the current system does.  But that would be about as likely as a constitutional amendment saying congress has to work for free.

    >start politics thread on the internet
    >derails into yank politics in 8 posts

But yeah, it'd be good if there was some body or something that gave more publicity to the lesser known parties.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    what's a yank politic?

    ^United States politics.

Getting back to Irish / UK politics, I'm sorry to hear that after having given up actual terrorism, many people are still just as vile in their rhetoric.  But I'm not surprised.

Actually, the funny thing was that this guy is Liverpudlian, and my neighbour (who is actually Irish, and anti-union) was just like, "what the fuck are you on mate?" XD

(sigh) This one always thought that liberalism means that even rights of those one disagrees with (or even outright hates) are to be protected. "I do not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it with my life". Guess that some people did not get the memo.

"Who called an enemy master of slaves became a king of jackals"

Heh, and that's coming from the one who is no pacifist and who's views on justice are...well...you know=).

PS: This one's mother identifies as non-practising Protestant, and guess who I've got most of my ideas from?
  • Because you never know what you might see.
"Liberal" is kind of a dirty word among some people on the left, I'm afraid.  Left != liberal.

Not that liberals are necessarily great, either.
  • Noone is necessary great.

Heh, this one is absolutely confused about just where her ideas place her on political spectrum. Results wary greatly depending on who is asking, even though this one gives the same answer...
  • Because you never know what you might see.
    True dat.

Have you tried any political compass tests?  This one's fairly decent, though it has a bit of a libertarian bias.
  • Wow, your left is so different from my left. My left think if you agree with the death penalty, it is YOU who should be put to death.
  • edited 2011-04-03 00:35:08
Yep, I've tried. Again, results tend to be varied depending on specific questions asked. For example, if the test is linked to current issues I tend to be considered some sort of crazy liberal socialist, if there is ecology and/or globalisation as well as third world countries and ethnic cultures thrown in a mix I am suddenly flinged noticeably to the right, if religion brought up the left shift is imminent and so on

Oh, and according to that compass I've been almost right at the centre with a minuscule shift to lower left
  • The thing with being associated with either side of the spectrum is that you are generally associated with every stance they hold, you agree with one you have to agree with the whole package.

@FrodoGoofballCoTV Yeah, Canadian liberals are actually pretty stupid. They are small (getting smaller) but are a VERY vocal minority, especially on CBC.ca.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Yeah, that's a pain.  It's like if you hold one view, you're expected to hold half a dozen other unrelated views on different issues.

British leftists aren't generally pro-death penalty, btw.  Far from it.  But then, the death penalty is kind of an extreme thing to advocate over here.  I mean, you get people who are like "They should bring back hanging", but they're regarded about the same way as a British-style conservative (see: Rottweiler) presumably looks to an American.

But no, the kind of people I'm talking about are more "up the revolution!", that kind of thing.  You know, the Starbucks-fueled student revolution you heard so much about.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
It isn't, it's a bad word amongst a relatively narrow subset of the hardcore left.
  • I recommend tremendous amounts of violence. If violence hasn't solved your problem, you haven't used enough.
