Both involve learning a syntax and (to very different extents) symbols. That's where the similarities end.

    Because you never know what you might see.
    It should be "in order to do math efficiently, you must first learn a new language".

    But assuming that's what's meant by "learning math is like learning a new language", I like that statement because it's so damn true, and it's why usually when I look at an equation on a page I have to battle against the urge to go "WTF is this gibberish?".
