Star Wars Prequels bitching

CRIMINAL SCUM!
God. Does all this nerd bitching about the star wars prequels annoy me. Christ it's not like they were THAT bad. Take out the romantic plot tumor of Anakin and you get a pretty interesting story. The only reason everyone hates them is because they weren't as "good" as their nostalgia filters remind them of the sequels and that it retconned the older expanded universe.

And dear GOD. STOP bitching about Jar Jar Binks. He was a little annoying. But gods he gets more hate then Edward Cullen.

It was an interesting story, but badly told.

I have no problems with it. I watched the entire Quadrilogy (lol Aliens reference) online and enjoyed it, and watched the past story first (since I kind of forgot that the older movies weren't happening chronologically first so I thought Darth Vader was a legendary Sith guy from back in the day and the Emperor wanted to remake him and stuff) The "romantic plot tumor" actually made Padme's death feel a lot less empty than Samuel L. Jacksons and the rest of the Jedis and made it a bit sad, although the force moves could have been a lot more...forcey. Since you can't see them except for a few they felt really weird to watch.

I would also have asked for more droid battling and fancy sword battling.

See, this is why I hesitate to mention my family and I (even my elementary-aged cousins) enjoy watching the prequels, because I'm going to get lynched by fucking whiners.

    ITT: Overdramatic hyperbole.

To be honest, I am not a fan of the prequels. I don't have any nostalgia for old star wars, since I was too late to watch it and have the nostalgia filter, but I just don't like what they did with Anakin's characterization. To me, he seemed like kind of a whiny bitch. True, there were some pretty sweet fights but there wasn't enough of them to distract me from my dislike of Anakin as a character. It also kinda bugged me that Padme went from strong and capable to emotional wreck from the second to third movies. I'm not saying she had to be a tough as nails hardass since i'm sure that watching your children's father turn to the darkside would be a heartbreaking experience, but I almost feel like she didn't really do much and had a relatively undignified end.

    You can change. You can.
I disliked the prequels, they were a badly written mess that would have been easily told in one film (Really, Revenge of the Sith was the only thing that was necessary from those three movies)

And I also have a major objection agains the fact that they made the whole saga about Anakin, instead of Luke. Luke was probably one of my favorite protagonist in film history and he had probably one of the greatest arcs in the history of ever. From farm boy wishing to be more to the savior of the universe.

Problem is that the Vader fans had to know what made him fall to darkness. Which is actually a pretty interesting idea, except that they dedicated three films to him and made the foreshadowing and all the themes abudantly clear so that the original trilogy would be seen in hindsight as the rise and fall of Anakin.

    TL;DR: Luke > Anakin, bitches.

    Of course, Han is better
  • I liked the prequels, not as much as I liked the originals. I'd have improved them in the following ways though;

[+] Make Anakin less of a whiny little prick. Especially after he becomes Darth Vader. Look, once you put on that suit you aren't allowed to cry, you're only allowed to kill, and show the occasional moment of compassion to make you seem even cooler.
[+] Connect the movies better. Remember how the originals had a single on going threat? They should have done that, I think it'd be better. Make it so that Darth Maul survives after Ep.1 and comes back as a cyborg! Only to get more mutilated in Ep.2 and come back as General Grievous in Ep.3, foreshadowing Vader.
[+] I'd also make it so Count Doku wasn't a Sith at all. Instead I'd make it so he was just a political dissident who was expelled from the Jedi Order. Give a bit more depth to the films!

Had they done that, I think I'd like them just has much as the originals.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
I do notice that people that don't like the prequels tend to like The Clone Wars series.  Anakin in that tends to act less like a punk and more the hero of the republic that's hinted at in the original trilogy.
  • Morgan Freeman is God
The first three Star Wars films were only slightly better than the prequel trilogy IMO.
