Sometimes I wonder why we do things in math class. This doesn't even manage to be interesting. My math teacher doesn't even pretend this'll be of much to use to the majority of us.

  • A good chunk of physics is knowing how to factor out obvious roots to simplify things.  Also helps for any kind of mathematical modeling of something when you want to construct a function that stitches through convenient places.  I used something like that about five weeks ago to deform a vase into a tulip :D
  • Generally, knowing how a function is composed is helpful to transform them into more useful ones.
