It's rather odd.

For example, I hate romantic comedies more than any other genre of movie, but I consider City Lights and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to be two of the finest films ever made.

    I just realized that the only anime that I know Chagen has watched are Gurren Lagann and Strike Witches.

    Though I guess that doesn't matter.

    Anyway, I am completely fine with anime being all about moeblobs.

    One of those is a deconstruction of the genre, and the other is, well, Charlie Chaplin. It's little wonder you like these more than the rest.

    God, Annie Hall. That movie is like if you rolled everything that was wrong with late 1970's filmmaking and intellectualism up into one giant, putrid cigar, and then then smoked it by setting some of the footage from the cutting room on fire and using that as a match.

    I much prefer Manhattan.

    IIRC, the movie was originally supposed to be a murder mystery with the romance as a side plot, but he ended up cutting the murder mystery out to focus on the romance instead. So basically, it's a side plot stretched into a full-length production, and that's exactly what it feels like.

    The bits go on for way too long, the majority of the writing basically amounts to Woody Allen throwing words like "Freud" and "Bergman" at the wall every 10 seconds to see what sticks, and there's an unbelievable lack of focus running through the whole thing.

    I don't suppose you've seen Manhattan? Now there's the movie that should've beaten Star Wars at the Oscars.

    I dunno, I didn't feel as if I was watching an incomplete movie.

    Also, it's true that the movie uses a lot of other people's philosophical standpoints in order to properly explain Alvy/Woody's psyche, but I didn't think it was particularl bad. It does feel like a philosophical/psychological essay, though, and I can see how it can make people feel weird.

    I mostly liked it for the metanarrative, though. Although the movie barely holds up to me. I prefer his slapstick stuff like Bananas and Love and Death

    Love and Death was hilarious.

    Midnight in Paris was actually really good, too. It felt like an arts-oriented Hark! A Vagrant sketch.

    Happens to me sometimes.

    Hate sports games but love NBA Jam and Tournament Edition. Hate western comics but love Thundermace and Chakan the Forever Man. Hate western animation but... well okay I can't finish this line with a straight face. and of course, hate Superheroes but love Marvel for some insane reason.
