My mother finds profanity unnecessary and more importantly thinks it makes a person come off as crude and uncouth or whatever, and so has been strict about keeping me from swearing.
I pretty much agree with her reasoning there, but I wonder sometimes how one should try to get other people to stop swearing if one dislikes it. I mean, I think telling them to not use harsh language or whatever can just make you look like you hate fun or are a moral guardian and such. On the other hand, sometimes the first response to asking people to quit cursing is a series of swears. I apologize for using the word moral guardian.
CentralAvenue,
Pfft. I know people who get like that over a Southern US accent.
Yep, I think I have seen the same thing and it seems rather condescending to me, not to mention disrespectful.
