One of them. The other is the times. The clockwise route is slightly farther out, and the Ring is a large enough facility that although they move at the same speed, the clockwise route takes slightly longer to go the same number of degrees than the counterclockwise one.

Nah. Surely all this couldn't be a result of some minor little misunderstanding or arbitrary twist of fate. They sent an armed man out to greet him. This was a hit from the start. But why?

He can't be too careful, after all. He wishes he had some coffee to keep him awake, but fear proves sufficient.

After a few hours pass, he hears a helicopter getting closer. They must have found the boat.

Move as fast as possible while attracting as little attention as possible

Break off a few lower branches and use them as cover while you bolt deeper into the woods. The helicopters shouldn't spot you unless they are specifically looking for moving foliage

Disguise yourself with the sod, leaves, etc. They'll be coming soon

I know. I feel somewhat crazy for doing this. Not sure what the ratio of crazy to awesome is, but I'm enjoying it so far.

One last thing to say: quantum immortality is an interesting concept. It's impossible to demonstrate whether it applies in reality, but it certainly applies to Alan. It's what makes the tree infinite.

^ You could, if it ever gets to be too many, declare a temporary hiatus on certain branches or even the whole story while you catch up

You could also get somebody to assist, or maybe limit how many actions a person can take per round

Jokingly ask if anybody has ever ordered alcohol then stored it for when they are on duty

Haul Powers onto his boat, use his clothes to tie him up, and try to wake him up so you can question him

Leave him to die and take his boat

Leave him to die and take the knife so you can commandeer the Yggdrasil

I believe I said in a previous segment that it was five years. Though given how confusing the format is, it's understandable that you missed it.

He already made a joke implying this in one segment, so I'm going to call this "essentially identical."

He's not exactly capable of sprinting in his condition, but he does what he can to get out of there. Soon, though, he hears a voice.

"I found him! That's Ashford!"

Before Alan can find the source of the voice or even consider surrendering, a bullet strikes him in the back. Then another, and another. The pain is excruciating, but doesn't last very long.
