I've touched upon this in another thread before IIRC, but Reddit has one of the most disgusting, pedophile-apologizing, misogynistic, racist, and just all-around creepy and weird online communities I've ever been involved in.
And yet I can't stop going back to the site.

Apparently I am in the top 1% in terms of Karma
I am not sure how to feel about this
I choose mildly ashamed...
I mostly hang out in the more specific fandom-related subs. The larger defaults are where most of the terrible things happen, especially /r/videos and /r/gaming, and especially /r/worldnews (good God, that place is a racist shithole.)
Subs like /r/games, /r/polandball, /r/tf2, /r/mylittlepony, /r/pokemon and /r/magictcg are usually pretty cool, though. /r/subredditdrama is good for laughing at the ridiculousness that Reddit puts out, and /r/lewronggeneration is one of my favorite places for mocking the nostalgia bait that gets circlejerked to the front page on other subs.
I mostly hang around /r/conlangs and a few game-specific subs.
I've been tempted to join reddit a few times.
Still haven't done it.
I recently found some really racist places in the non-general places. Specifically /r/greatapes and related. Who the hell approved even letting these get made?
Amusingly enough, /r/Stormfront was founded by actual storm watcher specifically because they knew it would have been taken up by racists otherwise.
Awesome!
I don't venture into the "big" subreddits very much - the few times I've ventured into r/worldnews were when paranoid people were discussing the Trans-Pacific Partnership or the NSA or something and speaking as if the US were on the verge of armed revolution.
Yeah, Reddit's larger defaults seem to attract that sort of paranoid pseudo-libertarian userbase.
The only default ones I stick to are /r/AskReddit, /r/NoSleep (although I'm currently waiting out the storm of bad stories. Default may not have been a good thing for it...), and /r/Creepy (...They get some neat images at times)
Mostly I stick to /r/talesfromretail and /r/pokemonrp
I don't browse Reddit, but I do visit our local equivalent. Sometimes I find something interesting in there, but most of the time, heh heh, I do it just to see the same kind of FSTDT hunting grounds as you guys have over there. Although the saner folks occasionally manage to shout down the crazies.
The DS friend code subs are pretty much the only reason I have an account there.
Miraculously, none of my Bravely Default Abilink list have named their special attacks racial or pedophilic slurs. Yet.
WISE FWOM YO GWAY
After spending some time on Reddit, I have to say, the most entertaining subreddits seem to be the ones that mock other parts of Reddit. Then again, in general, the most amusing forum users tend to be the ones that are self-aware enough to mock the stupidity of the forum.
dangit, internet, why do you have to run on mockery?
I've yet to find ones that don't fall victim to "all the rest is shit but us", leading to endlessly recursive subreddits mocking the new circlejerks. While the invective is funny, anything that doesn't engage in at least a bit of jabbing at the self verges towards out-of-tune smugness too quickly.
/r/CircleBroke seems to be aware of just how smug they are, at the least.
still true
I admit that the question "Didn't reddit used to have child porn?" is a convenient excuse to blow off someone's suggestion whenever they suggest I join reddit.
I'm laughing at this because I forgot all about it
I still don't have a Reddit account lol
I visit /3/ now and then, so I guess I count. I haven't done so in a while though.
On the plus side, I made $2 from /r/slavelabour, making it one of the most profiting things I've done on the internet.
I wish there were a "New" link at the top of the screen.
