    I honestly have no idea, but it's generally enough to scrape by on, including medical expenses.

    I mean, we're not the ones in general who are particularly bugged at our government for not paying all of our medical expenses.

    Well idealistically I'm bugged that it isn't universally paid for by taxes everywhere.
    However I'm not going to force your country/culture to change, it'd have to be done from those who are affected by it, eg you Aussies.

    That is what I'd agree with too, under welfare.
    As if you earn too little over here you get tax credits, or topped up with JSA.

    Well, even in countries with healthcare and free food, everyone dies.

    That said, the question you should be asking is how much healthcare should be subsidized in order to maximize productivity of people.  It's definitely true that if you give people (good-quality) healthcare, then they get better faster when they get sick, and thus have fewer days of sick leave or missed school or such, and the impact of debilitating conditions can be lessened, allowing people with them to be more productive.

    3am political posting is confusing, been there, but it seems like we kind of agree on the food part.

    Depends on your outlook, mine isn't as a means to an end (productivity) it is humanitarian.
